Dights Falls Mill. In 1887, a group including Alexander Gillespie, operating as Yarra Falls Roller Flour Mills, purchased the site of the original Dights Falls Mill. They constructed a new mill on the site, with 500 horsepower water-driven turbines. Continuing problems with water power led to it being converted to steam in the 1890's. It was sold in 1909, and burned down soon afterwards. Being the oldest surviving industrial site in Melbourne, it has now been restored. |
