The Bible says that everyone has rebelled against God and is subject to eternal condemnation. However, to give us a way out, He sent His Son to take our punishment on Himself, so that we may have forgiveness and therefore eternal life. This is given as a gift, but we must follow Jesus to qualify.
I am the way and the truth and the light. No-one comes to the father except through me." John 14:6. Jesus speaking.
Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever. Heb. 13:8.
This righteousness comes from God through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no difference, for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. Rom.3:22,23.
If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we claim we have not sinned, we make him out to be a liar and his word has no place in our lives. 1 John 1:8,10.
For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. Rom.6:23.
…that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, and that he appeared to Peter, and then to the Twelve. After that he appeared to more than 500 of the brothers at the same time, most of whom are still living... 1 Cor 15:3-6.
".....unless you repent, you to will all perish." Luke 13:3 - Jesus
"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life." John 3:16. Jesus speaking.
"...the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many." Matt.20:28. Jesus speaking.
Means to immerse fully in a fluid (in this case water).
Peter replied, "Repent and be baptised, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ so that your sins may be forgiven. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit." Acts 2:38.
"…or don't you know that all of us who were baptised into Christ Jesus were baptised into his death? We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we to may live a new life. If we have been united with him in his death, we will certainly also be united with him in his resurrection." Rom.6:3-5.
"My command is this: Love each other as 1 have loved you. Greater love has no-one than this, that one lay down his life for his friends. You are my friends if you do what I command." John 15:12-14. Jesus speaking.
"There is a judge for the one who rejects me and does not accept my words; that very word which I spoke will condemn him at the last day. For I did not speak of my own accord. but the Father who sent me commanded me what to say and how to say it." John 12:48-50. Jesus speaking.
You will have noticed, in Acts 2:38, the reference to the Holy Spirit.
The Holy Spirit is the third part of the Godhead (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit ), and comes to dwell within the believer. The Spirit is the source of power, comfort, inspiration etc. for the believer. Note that it is also the Spirit which leads people to Christ.
But the fruit of the spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self control. Against such things there is no law. Gal.5:22.
The spirit also imparts supernatural powers, for example healing, knowledge, prophecy and 'tongues', praying and praising god in a language you don't know. In all new testament references to people o9ceiving the spirit, where mention is made of evidence, tongues are listed.
All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak In other tongues as the Spirit enabled them. Acts 2:4.
... the Holy Spirit came on all who heard the message...for they board them speaking in tongues and praising God. Acts.10:44,46.
When Simon saw that the Spirit was given at the laying on of the apostles hands... Acts 8:18
This last passage makes it clear that there was immediate evidence that the people had received the Spirit.
We hope and pray that this information, although very brief, will,: be of benefit to you. To get the most from it you should look up the Bible passages and read the surrounding verses to understand the context, to avoid misunderstanding, all scripture should be taken in the context of the whole bible. We recommend the New International Version (used in this leaflet) or the New American Standard. For further study, read at least one of the four gospels (accounts of Jesus' life on Earth) followed by Acts (an account of the early church). A new testament will suffice if you don't wish to buy a full Bible yet.
Your local Christian bookstore will have a variety of books dealing with Bible authenticity, covering such topics as evidence for the resurrection, prophecy already fulfilled, reliability of the bible documents and translations, scientific evidence supporting the bible (including creation versus evolution), etc. Unfortunately, some books teach man's doctrine as opposed to Bible doctrine, by adding to or subtracting from God's word. If in doubt, check it carefully in your Bible.
For the time will come when men will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear. They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths. 2 Tim.4:3,4. See also Gal.1:6-9.
