Founder of Faulconbridge

The name Faulconbridge comes from Henry Parkes' mother, maiden name Martha Faulconbridge.

As one of the early landowners in the area, Parkes petitioned the railway authorities for a platform near his home. Soon after, he petitioned the postal authorities to drop a mail bag at the station for himself & his neighbours. This led to him establishing a postal office, which for many years was staffed by one of his employees.

Parkes was responsible for the construction of numerous bush tracks into the nearby gullies, some of which remain in use to this day.

Statesman

Born in poverty, Henry Parkes was to become Prime Minister of the colony of New South Wales. Having migrated to the colony, his first employment was as a farm assistant for a titled "gentleman" whose treatment of his employees was hardly gentlemanly.
