Did You Know?

The Lett River, originally River Lett, got it's name as a result of an explorer not knowing how to spell  'rivulet'.

The Great Western Highway follows Cox's route to the Mt York turn-off, then Mitchell's route, and finally Brisbane's route.

Comit Inn, a rest stop at the base of Mt York, remains to this day.

Hartley Vale railway station (abandoned) is not in Hartley Vale, but on the ridge.

Bell railway station was originally called Mt Wilson.

.

Bushwalking & Trains

Cox's road is open to cars as far as the picnic area at the top of Mt York. Cox's, Lawson's, Lockyer's and Berghoffer's passes are open to bushwalkers.

The Zig-Zag is operated by historic steam trains and railcars. There are picnic facilities and walking tracks.

CityRail trains run from Sydney to Lithgow at regular intervals.

Glow Worm Tunnel, on the Wolgan Valley Railway, makes an interesting excursion.
